The NAB is an approved umbrella body of the criminal records bureau and disclosure Scotland and provides criminal records checks. We have a number of counter signatories who are able to authorise the completion of criminal record checks. At the Nab we have a dedicated department that will deal directly with your requirements to provide either basic, standard or enhanced criminal record checks.
Basic CRB checks are available for all types of employment and voluntary positions not covered by the higher-level disclosures. A Basic CRB disclosure contains details of convictions considered 'unspent' under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and held on the Police National Computer. Basic criminal record checks are not job-specific and may be used more than once.
The Standard Level CRB check is primarily available to anyone involved in working with children or vulnerable adults, as well as certain other occupations and entry into professions as specified in the Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.
Standard criminal record checks show current and spent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer.
Enhanced CRB checks are for posts involving a far greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults. In general the type of work will involve regular caring for, supervision, training or being in sole charge of such people. Examples include a teacher, medical professionals, scout or guide leader.
This level of disclosure involves an additional level of check on local police records. Where local police records contain additional information that might be relevant to the post the applicant is being considered for, Chief Office of police may release information for inclusion in an Enhanced criminal record check.
If a candidates position involves working with children or vulnerable adults, the following may also be searched:
• Protection of Children Act (POCA) List
• Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) List
• Information that is held under Section 142 of the Education Act 2002 (formerly known as List 99)
