Criminal Records Bureau Check |
The NAB is registered as an umbrella body with the Criminal Records Bureau and specialises in the speedy completion of CRB disclosures.
The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is an Executive Agency of the Home Office. It checks police records and, in relevant cases, information held by the Department of Health (DH) and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
Although the CRB check was devised to apply primarily to anyone involved in working with children or vulnerable adults, it also applies to occupations and entry into professions as specified in the Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The full list of exemptions is listed here http://www.crb.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=1855 .
There are two levels of CRB check currently available, Standard and Enhanced Disclosures.
Standard Disclosure
Standard Disclosures show current and spent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer. If the post involves working with children or vulnerable adults, the following may also be searched:
- Protection of Children Act (POCA) List
- Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) List
- Information held under Section 142 of the Education Act 2002 (formerly known as List 99)
Enhanced Disclosure
This is the highest level of check available. Enhanced Disclosures contain the same information as the Standard Disclosure but with the addition of any relevant and proportionate information held by the local police forces.
Costs
Current CRB charges are £36 for an enhanced disclosure and £31 for a standard disclosure. The NAB charge for completion of the process is £20 for both types of disclosure.
The NAB DOES NOT, as do some organisations offering similar services, make a charge for the initial application, returning incomplete documentation to the client and make further charges for completing the CRB disclosure process. |
